I had a MG ZR before this and I have to say - the Focus is an absolute pleasure to drive. It handles well, the fuel economy is good, and I think its insurance group 6. If you can go for the 'Climate' model - it has air con and a heated windscreen as extras.
That price sounds spot on. I was looking at a VW Golf initially - but if you want a Golf with the same spec as the Zetec, you're looking at about 14k. For 9k you get a good, reliable car, with some decent kit on it which doesn't cost a fortune to run. I'm chuffed with mine and I'm sure you will be:

The LX is a couple of models below the Zetec, which basically means you don't get some of the features you would on the higher spec model. For example, the Zetec is sportier, with sports suspension, different style wheels, different styling etc. If you're buying a Focus older than 2004, you'll probably find that the shape is different to the newer cars (they had a revamp in mid 2004) but whatever shape/age you buy, the differences between the Zetec and the LX remain the same.
