how do i stop my diesal vauxhal frontera smokeing

Blue smoke? It's burning oil and your engine has a problem, probably needs new piston rings, or the turbo seals have gone.
Black? Then most likely either your injector pump is set incorrectly (using too much diesel or mistimed) or you have one or more faulty injectors.
Possible DIY fix: get some injector cleaner stuff from Halfords (or wherever) tip the whole bottle into a quarter-half tank and don't fill up till you have to. At some point, have a sesssion or two of revving hell out of it, to 'blow the cobwebs out'. Be careful if you're engine is old, though, don't over do it!
