Anone know what the sign on the back of some lorrys stands for ? It's a blue back ground with white letters TIR i noticed its not on all lorrys just some why is that? Thanks gang for your answers.

It means that the lorry is carrying a sealed load which conforms to the Transports Internationaux Routiers (TIR) agreement. Customs Authorities seal the load so that it can pass through different countries without delay.

Technically TIR is not used much now. Goods moved within the EU are not subject to the various customs regs any more (and before anyone says anything, this has nothing to do with your holiday duty free!) and goods that are being onward shipped (eg I used to take stuff to Austria, that would go on to Hungary) only need T forms, so no need for TIR documentation. The only stuff that effectively uses TIR now, are trucks coming to and from the Middle East and Asia.
