When turning on the ignition nothing will happen, seems like the battery is completely dead but then it will just start randomly. When drving the engine power just cuts out, if you lift off the accelerator it picks up again and conitues as normal. Is this a common problem or is there any obvious reason?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.The start problem could just be down to a poor engine earth affecting the starter , check the earth strap between the engine and the body work, remove any corrosion with a wire brush and make sure you have a good metal to metal contact. The strap is sometimes located between the gearbox and chassis leg.
