My car tax runs out on the 31st July do I have to get the new car tax on the 31 or is it OK to get it on the 1st August.

Have you not seen the warning adverts on TV about car tax?

If your car is untaxed for one day the DVLA computers will know and automatically issue a fine.

You will probably get away with this if you tax your car on the 1st and notify the DVLA but why go through the hassle.

You should really buy it before the old one runs out. You'll usually be OK for a couple of days into the month though. You can buy replacement tax from the 15th of the month in which it runs out, so in this case, from Saturday.
