probably not my cup of tea but they are rated the best in their class
You can take one on an extended test drive to help find out for yourself. It depends on what type of driving you want to do. If you want to go anywhere that is more than an hour away although it is fun to drive the drone of the engine close to, is seriously wearing! I was impressed by the costs and intervals of services and I always check the cost of a tyre and an hours labour when I am seriously considering a purchase, both did favourably.
Personally the noise was too much and I would want a 911 instead, having told the sales guy this, he replied that often people bought boxsters and then cameback for 911's after a couple of years! So as son as Son leaves home I might treat myself to a 911 straight away. (No more school fees)
horses for courses...one of my friends had one and had no end of trouble with it, whilst my next door neighbour has a Boxster S which he loves more than life itself!

As with everything, do an extended test drive. I once owned a 996 Carrera 2 which I bought after a 10 minute spin up the road, thinking I was fulfilling a boyhood dream. The day to day practicality was far from a dream, my gf hated it, it soon went at a hefty loss. I wish I still had it as a weekend car, but as a sole vehicle it just didn't fit my requirements.

Unfortunately, I found it was a bit like sh@gging your dream girl and finding she wasn't all that between the sheets! Bloody fast though!!
