Diesel VW Golfs take a bit of beating. Great economy and reliability. They hold their money really well which can make the purchase more expensive than other cars of the same year, but you'll get the benefit back if and when you need to sell it.

c5 will be good value - but they lose value fast -mondeo td better all round choice , try focus as alternative to golf
