I own a mini, original. I've been told that if I join a Mini Owners Club, that will help lower my premium as it shows I'm interested in the preservation of the vehicle, and don't want to rag the testes off it.
We have been in owners clubs for MG and MR2 and both have saved us money on insurance premiums and given discounts with approved repairers and spare parts
i work in a big brokers & it would not be taken into account. the computer works out the price automatically & does not even ask if you are a member of any clubs. i would say you could prob find a specialist insurer who would give a discount, but in general- no.
i,m a member of an sx owners club and there is 2 insurance companys who give you a 10% discount so i'm gonna go with yes, and even more likely as its an old mini
I think the situation in general is that a lot of Owners Clubs will have their own recommended brokers which may or may not give you a better deal. Ask around - if there are any classic car shows near you then you may get a few pointers.
I am a member of the Institute Of Advanced motorists, they practically guarantee lower insurance costs but when I asked for quotes from all the Ins companys who advertised in the IAM magazine they all came out higher than the Ins company I previously used!
