my hubby just sold nissan skyline, i thought it was a great car but he says it drunk much to much petrol and it was a bumpy ride, it did have 4 seats, he had a chip put in it and my god did it go fast, too fast for my liking, before that he had a mitubishi fto, that also was another great car, more comfy but not as sleek looking.

or a lancer evo , much as i like the impreza (and i really do it is a fine car) -it wont outperform all the others , and this isn't pub bar bragging but my cousins 200sx runs 250bhp and i know impretsir it will hurt you to hear this, he makes mincemeat of maxed up modded imprezas with far far more power , put it this way he blew of fhis mates clio v6 , who then challenged him with a lancer evo fq330 - and that got dusted aswell
tali, it doesnt hurt me in the slightest, there will always be stories like that about, which may be true, and may not be, either way, flat out top speed is soooo not the point of an Impreza. But as you mentioned it, exactly how does your cousins car 'make mincemeat' of others cars with far more power, Including an Evo FQ330?? Thats quite a good trick!
I dont blame you for being suspicious- and even my cousin is continually surprised at how fast his sx his in fact he was up against another 200sx running 350 bhp and was level with it- and it is all true -the proof is in the pudding., oh and the roads he's on are not all straight but with plenty of twists and bends - so not just about max speed .As for the "trick", well i know of a lancer evo extreme 330bhp make a audi rs2 315bhp look like a diesel -despite only 15bhp difference
As for the impreza -still a better choice than the class leading focus st and golf gti.

Im not calling you a liar, it just seems to be common sence that car 1 with this much power will not be able to out run car 2 with a significantly larger amount of power, (assuming both cars weigh roughly the same). As Mr Scott would say, "you canna change the laws of physics captain!!" Therefore I can only suggest that the difference must come down to the skill/bravery/recklessness of the respective drivers involved.
yes there is the driver element to consider, but (and your not going to believe this) ive been in my cousins sx and he was keeping pace with my friends porsche 911 turbo which has some 400bhp- and the 911 friend is an experienced performance driver (who also had the advantage of suddenly accelerating ), of couse if someone suggested that to me id be skeptical- but i have experienced it to comment on it as i saw it.
