Can the police take your car away from you if you are caught driving with a provisional (not full )license and crush it? What if your car is insured, can they still do it?

I should think it' s a good thing-stop the little scrote's who haven't got a licence driving round the roads being a danger and a menace to society!! surely the insurance wouldn't be valid anyway if driving a car illegally???
It's a good thing - Hampshire are doing this regularly (Traffic Cops, BBC1). However, if you bought a car because you were learning to drive, had a provisional, insurance, tax, MOT etc and you always had a qualified driver with you (i.e parent) it's very unlikely that the car would be ceased. Alarm bells might start to ring if your 'qualified driver' was a young friend and you were breaking speed limits etc, racing around as though you'd already passed your test!
