ford 6000cd problem

Our focus has a 6000cd audio system. The radio works fine but the unit won't accept a cd, it's as though there is already a cd in the drive but there isn't. It also displays "no disc" if you press the cd or eject buttons. When trying to insert the cd it seems to stop against something and it makes no attempt to draw it in. Anyone know what may be wrong? thanks.
