Banned- but driving abroad.

There has been much publicity about a model (Caprice?) who got banned for excess alcohol recently. However, in todays paper there is a photo of her at the wheel in Spain. The article says that although she has lost her licence in the U.K., she is still allowed to drive overseas. However, (no problem for her!) when you get banned you do `lose` your licence because you have to surrender it. As it is normal to produce your UK licence to hire a car abroad, whats the best way to overcome this.

Think ahead. Say you have lost your licence and get a copy ready to use out of U.K.

Yes Wellard that does work but you would be breaking the law doing that as you have to declare any pending prosecutions when applying for your copy, they would probably not issue it until after the hearing, but yes it happens.

thinking back along time ago..

A friend of mine got a year ban for excess speeding on his motorbike while on holiday in the Isle of man.. but was ok to drive once he crossed back over to the UK..

Lee, that used to be the case, but IOM now has a reciprocal agreement. It came about shortly after Joey Dunlop got nicked for DUI & promptly got out of jail with a stonking hangover & won the race in the morning!!![RIP}
