Medium wave radio five on car radio....bad reception why?

Why is it that when i start the car my radio 5 reception (MW/AM)is very badly affected. It is Ok when the ignition is turned off. FM seems Ok most of the time.

sounds like something on your car needs supressing (probably the alternator). Have you posted in Motoring? They can tell you better how to do it.

do you get the sound of your engine revving through your radio? as interference?

yes the sound of engine revving is heard as interference as the reception is slightly better when stopped at traffic lights. what does it mean

id say the radio has a bad earth, maybe try grounding it somewhere else
