peugeot 206 1.9 diesel, engine keeps cutting out....usually after about 15 miles or so. This has been an ongoing problem that is becoming more frequent. I have had the oil and filter changed, changed the air filter and today it has had a diagnostic check which has showed everything to be ok. On the last 2 occasions i have had to get the breakdown out, they have told me air is getting in the fuel system, but this is not apparent when checked at the garage. Any suggestions

mabe.. the fuel tank is not venting. causing a vaccuum. you could try and run the car with a temp fuel cap on to test.

or mabe.. as breakdown says.. air is getting in.. possibly air is getting in by cracks in the leak off pipes. ( the little pipes that join each injector togeather)
or mabe by the fuel filter cap seal .. look for tiny cracks or slight misting of diesel around fuel system.
Surely a diesel fuel system should be running at pressure from the pump onwards? How/why would air be getting in? Can anybody comment.
try leaving the car idiling for a few minutes before setting off and also give it about 3 restarts as i had a similar problem with a 45 sec cutting off -. been told there is an air leak
after the pump the fuel is under pressure. but the fuel gets to the pump by being syphoned..
so any cracks in the fuel system from the tank to the pump will draw in air as it is lighter than the fuel.

so after time the fuel pump becomes an air pump :(
Thanks Lee
