does standard insurance apply on a supermarket car park? I have a small bump yesterday pulling out from a junction and hit someone in the passenger side. I do not know where he came from as he was not there when i looked prior to pulling out !!! he now claims his car is a write off and for whiplash when i had only travelled 2 feet and was barely moving !!

Damned invisible cars - I hate them !
Yes, it is a public place, and in essence the 'rules of the road' apply. You can be done for drink-driving in a car park, for careless driving etc.

Hand the problem over to your insurer - it sounds like he's going to be a trouble-maker!
It sounds as if this is a insurance scam to me.

It has been in the press and on tv recently. People are orchestrating accidents and then claiming for damage and injuries way in excess of what would be expected from such a minor incident.

Write down now every fact you can remember - including the number of passengers. Also the general condition of the other vehicle - did it appear on good condition overall? Was there obvious damage?

How about your car? Any damage? Be sure to tell the insurance company that there is no, or very little damage, to your own car if that is the case.
Then contact the insurance company. Good luck!
