SEAT ibiza revs dropping

i recenly got a seat ibiza 97 1.0 for a great price but the car seams to conk out if you dont give it a little rev every couple of seconds. if its in netrual it wii go for a about a minute without conking. but if you turn on the lights it will conk straight away without reving. right you say rev it but it gets pretty anoying
anyone know what this problem is

First to check is throttle body, may have an excess build up of carbon and need cleaning out - can sometimes be improved by taking the car out for a good blast... has it done a lot of short journeys in its past? Next stop would be to check the air mass meter, you should be able to get hold of an exchange or reconditioned unit from your local Seat parts dealer.... Can be caused by a number of things, but I'd check these out first...
