When the engine management light comes on in my friends nissan almera is it still safe to drive and if so for how long till she gets it checked?

The light just indicates a fault, the car could run forever and have no problems, or it could cut out on the motorway a 70mph. You can never tell, best get the car booked in.

My light came on a few days ago. This morning my car won't start at all. It turns over but wont start, I've tried another battery ut it stil won't start Any one any tips I can try.
