Hello all,

Does anyone know how long the batterys in an electric car last before you need to replace them?

Also how much would the new batterys cost, including recycling / disposal of teh old ones?

Cheers

Depends on the car because different ones have different battery technology.

One of the most interesting is here it uses Lithium ion batteries.

www.teslamotors.com

They claim 250 miles range 0-60 in 4 seconds and a 100,000 mile lifetime for the batteries. They say they incorporate the cost of recycling the batteries into the purchase cost so they will dispose of them if you need to buy a new one.

Only draw back is the cost of the car is about $100,000
you need to replace this battery about every four years at a cost ranging from $1,000 to $,2000.
