how long since its last service and what kind of quantities of fuel are you talking?
Fuel consumption can be caused by any of the following:
1) heavy acceleration - fast driving
2) Golfs are heavy cars anyway so this will cause heavy consumption especially if its the 115 -125 bhp
3) Fuel filter may need changing (and or full service is needed)
why buy a bigish car & moan about fuel consumption,
1.you use it to much!
2.buy a motorbike for commuting,
3.buy a pushbike for exercise,
my 1.6 Astra does 25mpg around town,
how does that compare to yours????.
Nice answer gsr. Perhaps jonny will now swap his posing machine for something more economical.

PS I have nothing against Golf Gtis etc.
i dont think a golf is what you could call a big car? its hardly a 3ltr bmw or a large 4wd is it?

the fact is he has asked why it is using to much petrol, fair enough he hasnt answered any questions we have asked him?

i had GSXR600 and i loved it! and while were on my wifes audi A3 does 56mpg urban? i love diesel cars!!! :))
What does the manual say? does yours wildly differ? if its similar then its the design of the car. If not it may be the way you drive i guess you dont buy a gti for driving like an old lady as all golf's look much the same (apart from the wheels) regardless of spec. Or if you drive carefully get it checked out. 2litre what were you expecting???Common sense stuff!!!!
