hi there,

has anyone had their test in their own car?

i just wondered if it is different from the usual tests with dual controls - i would think the examiners will be more nervous because they don't have any controls...?

many thanks for any answers

I don`t know about the cotrols but years ago I knew I`d failed when he came out and said "Not the Skoda". I failed.
I passed my test in my Mums old Peugeot 204 nearly 30 years ago. No problems at all...and the examiner didn't even comment about the dent in the front wing (which I had put in it on a roundabout the day before!...though I didn't tell him that!).
Two of my friends have passed their tests fairly recently in their own cars after at least a couple of failed attempts each in their instructors cars. They were used to their own little cars as they practiced in between lessons alot, and felt more confident. There was no difference, only had to have an extra mirror for them to see out of.

do you think they took you on less busy routes because of the control thing - i would think some of them would be a bit too nervous to go on busy junctions etc

Hello,

I am an Ex - Driving Test Examiner!

No problem taking the test in your own car BUT, you must have a stick on mirror for the Examiner - cheap to buy from any motoring shop.

Don't worry about the Examiner being "nervous" !! They do 35 tests per week and 140 per month ! They are VERY experienced. Just MAKE SURE you really ARE up to test standard. Your "instructor" - depending on which driving school you have learnt with SHOULD be able to advise you :)

Any further worries, get back to me.
