My '96 mondeo diesels' heating system has packed up. The temperature gauge isn't reading any higher than usual, there's plenty of water in the coolant bottle, the fan works perfectly but there's no warm air being produced,
anyone got any ideas?

Sounds like the termostat has stuck or broken. They are quite cheap and easy to replace usually held on with 2 or 3 bolts and located at the top of the engine. Follow the cooling pipes to the block and locate the union. You need to replace the gasket under the housing to stop leaks, If you don't feel confident in changing it try HALFORDS or a local garage it should not be too expensive but the antifreeze should be replaced or tested as the winter is approaching.
These sort of symptoms have been reported a lot here recently. The usual response is to chcek or replace the heater control valve.
Ring Ford - ask them if a heater control valve is fitted -if it is - change it - easy to do and not very expensive - it is fitted to Fiestas so maybe the Modeos have one too.
