For the purposes of totting up it is 3 years from date of offence to date of offence

It's 3 years on your paperwork (after 3 years you can send away and pay another hefty fee to have your 'clean' licence reprinted). BUT they stay on your record for 5 years - hence why some insurance companies take this into account for up to 5 years.
