A friend of mine recently bought a 1999 Ford Focus and we don't know how to open the bonnet, there's a keyhole behind the front badge, but it we tried to unlock it but with no luck. Help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe you need to insert the key, quickly twist it to the left and then immediately all the way to the right for the bonnet to release.
if you read the handbook that came with it,it will tell you.

I used to deliver cars for a living. When I delivered a brand new Focus to a customer, I always made a point of making sure that they knew how to open the bonnet.

That was over 5 years ago, but I thought it was the opposite way to Kempie's suggestion. i.e. I recall it as being a clockwise turn of the key, immediately followed by an anticlockwise one. (Just try both. It should work eventually!).

Burrrr, cold out tonight. Just checked our Ford Focus.

Sequence is:-

Lift ford badge and insert ignition key

Turn key fully anti clockwise. (you should hear a click)

Then turn key fully clockwise, keep key in that position whilst lifting the bonnet. Job done.

Good luck.

Thanks for the answers, does it require some force?
It doesn't take any force but does take a bit of getting used to. I was told by the dealer to use the spare key for opening the bonnet routinely (ie: to change windscreen wash) just to prevent wear and tear an the master key.
