Hi all - i currently have a Pentium D 930 chip (2 cores at 3ghz). Someone has given me an Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 (dual core 1.86). What is the better and faster chip? I was told that the clock speed cant be the only factor in performance. Thanks. PM.

Well the Core 2 Duo is 64bit, not that it'd be important since you're probably just using 32bit windows. It also has more advanced features from a technical standpoint that makes it more capable for certain types of work.

I've no idea what socket type the pentium D uses, but unless it's the same as the core 2 duo and your motherboard supports it, it'll be of no use anyway.

Both chips use the 775 socket type.
The E6300 is slightly faster, this site does a thorough review of many CPUs.

There doesn't seem to be much in it though.
