moped wont start off the electric start.

i have a moped, when i try and start it starter wizzez but doesnt throw over the engin. then it slows down. posibly unrelated but not sure, when i do start it and lave it to idle the lights are very dim, reving the engin makes the lights bright again. new battery? am not sure any help would be good

Hi, it could be one of the following you may not need a new battery try charging it first to see if that improves the bike, if it doesnt then a new battery would be a good option if its over 5 years old.

you may have a blocked exhaust as this often causes mopes to slow down. pop to halfords an get your self a moped manual (�5) they are really useful for finding out about little troubles as not a lot goes wrong with mopeds.
as i have found it very handy on occasions.

sounds like a dead battery.
if the starter isnt spinning fast enough, it wont throw the starter dog into the fly wheel gear.
cant you take the bike to a shop and ask them to do a "free battry check" ?

Kick start......?? I know a lot of ped's don't have them anymore, which is daft really.

More than likely to be the battery not having enough ' va -va - voom ' to power the solenoid to engage the starter pinion.

Also, you'll find that most peds' lights will dim on tick-over owing to the way that they create their AC power, that is that they will run without a battery, and therefore anything but an absolutely tip top brand new battey will have the lights dimming on idle, as most of the 'power' is being used to maintain ' low tension' to the coil.

Hi - I have a similar problem with my Vespa ET2 - sometimes it will start of the electric starter, but if its been left for a long time - it will need to be kicked over, I have also noticed that occasionally the flashers will flash faster than normal - indicating a lamp out. I have been told that I could could have a loose earth connection, the only problem is finding it. So Im going to take some advice on this thread and go buy a manual from Halfords and start looking for a loose connection.

Mines exatly the same, make wizzing noise..lights dim wen in idle but everything else is ok. when i bought the moped the electric start was working the guy even showed me, maybe im doing it wrong ?
