Megane MkII engine cut out when starting

I recenlty bought a Renault Megane MKII 04 plate VVT 1.6 and only sumtimes when its cold it fails to start first time. i put the card in, clutch down press start engine, it starts up then after 4 secs it dies. As i s said it only happens in the morning. Any ideas?
