I,m still not sure what to do about the problem I have wiyh door locks not working from key after complete battery failure.Answers seem to point to the ECU? failing. Why should a simple battery fail mean so much trouble an expence. What does one do if it happens again after a week!Did the emergency start man cause the problem?Surly there is a simple reset programme I can use.Frustrated!R reg car.

does it work from the n/s lock?
are all fuses ok?
it is usualy a broken excentric cam in the door handle the c/l in a 97 POLO has no relationship with the engine control module it has a seperate c/u built into the pump in the boot..

Thanks for reply the problem has now been resolved.after taking car to VW dealer they said Central locking fob on key was not standard and they would not do anything .After fiddling about with fob pressing on off etc the system righted itself! I decided to have new battery fitted and this caused no problems so now all seems OK. Thanks.
