mobile phone laws

I know it is an offence to use a mobile phone whilst driving without hands free but if the phone rings and you pull into the kerb but your engine is still running, would this be an offence. Sorry to sound a bit dim but i never use my phone in the car however on occasions it has rung and if possible I will pull over to answer it.

yes you can pull over and answer it,with your engine running,but not on motorways,and some dual carriageways,where ther is no where for you to stop,its just common sense really,be carefull,buy a bluetooth headset,they are allowed

I wouldn't dream of pulling over on a motorway or dual carriage way. The phone would just have to ring. I was thinking more of your side roads. Thanks.

Spaced is correct. There was a caller on Radio 5 Live yesterday who was in a car park with the engine off and the keys in the ignition. A Traffic Policeman told him that he must remove the keys from the ignition for his call to be legal, as he was deemed to be in charge of the vehicle with the keys in the ignition, even with the engine not running.

I do see people pull up in the most stupid to answer a Mobile.

Mobiles phones in moving vehicles have achieved the same notoriety as those used in the theatre. Just switch them off!

Thanks everyone. I shall play safe and leave it alone untill I am out of the car. It is never that important anyway.
