My brother was pulled over by the police on monday for running a red light. He was in my mums car in which he is not insured. They have compounded her car until my brother pays a fine to get it back. What form of punishment so to speak will he receive from this; penalty points? Loss of his license? (He had no previous points) or a fines?
Many thanks.

He will lose his licence (at least 6 points for no insurance and at least 3 for the red light) plus a hefty fine.

However, the problems I see are with your mother.

1) If she knew he had no insurance she is permitting the offence (or aid and abetting)

2) If she had no knowledge then he has taken the car without consent (TWOC). Either way, she maybe be as bu66ered as him.

Silly, silly boy, your brother.
3 points for the red light + 60. 6-8 for no insurance +Hefty. No ban for totting up but every chance of getting one for the no insurance although he may get a heavy fine if the Beak thinks he's rich enough.

Now stand back for the "No insurance" evangelists, come on Norman you know you want to.....
With any luck they will also charge him for storing the car and for getting it out. It's tw@ts like him who force my insurance up.
Seeing as I am a Reverand am I also an Evangelist??
He will only receive 6 - 8 points for the no insurance plus a fine. More than likely the bench will make what is called no separate penalty for going through a red light. they may fine him for the light but no points because points are only awarded on the higher tarriff offence.
If he has held a full driving license for under two years, the 6 points will be an instant revocation.

Back to L plates, theory test and another driving test.
loosehead,do you think its ok to drive without it then.
Mum can get her car back as the owner with valid insurance for the vehicle. She will have to pay storage fees before getting it back though.
Stupid little boy your brother, deserves everything he gets and if your Mum has any sense, she will make him pay her back the storage costs.
No I don't norman, but I do tire of the constant moralising about it. It's bad, we know it's bad. I just don't think the badness needs re iterating at every opportunity.

Stupid little boy lol? Im afraid he's 23. He has got her car back, and he was paying the fine anyway. Apparently it will go to court and then find out from there what will happen.
