Every time I get out of my Citroen Picasso I get an electric shock from the body of the car, It has only started happening in the last few weeks, OK, so happening a lot more in the last few weeks!!

Now, is it the car discharging through me or is it me discharging through the car.

Possibly a contributing factor is I have recently started wearing Croc shoes they are not made from rubber but similar and probably insulating me from ground.

Anybody got any ideas how to stop me getting fried, it bloody hurts!!!!

i get a similar problem with my picasso although it can happen with many cars
my cure is to flick the bodywork quickly with one finger
that does the job without pain!!
Hold firmly on the the metal part of the door as you get out and stand on the ground. Wait a second or two. The static charge will dissipate gradually and you won't feel a shock. The build up of static electricity is due mainly to friction between the seat material and your clothing.
Have you tried earthing the car to the ground? By dangling a chain from the car body to ground should do the trick.
it used to happen to me all the time, i even went on a website asking an expert about it, (mines a honda accord but think that irrelevent) i just bought seat covers from B&Q and that seems to work (1 year later) my problem was the nylon in the seat covers, and you are right ratter15 it does bloody hurt, i used to get palpitations before opening the door lol
Dunno about dragging chains to earth the vehicle ! - you can buy an earth strap from most autoshops which will solve your static electricity problem.
yes it does i got the same from my xantia, but i`ve found its the shoes i wear, nylon lining. as mentioned a earth strap does work
worked in the grand hotel, brighton once. they had new nylon carpets put down. all the door handles were the round brass ones. every time you walked along a landing or up the stairs and went to open a door you got the most terrific shock. in the end we were afraid to touch anything metal. certainly kept us on our toes. don't know if earthing the car would work as it may be your seats and the clothes you wear charging you up, so you would need anti-static seat covers ( just a thought , not definitely going to work)

hi you can but straps from most accessory shops that fix to bumper they will stop it
Ditch the brothel-creepers and follow Teddio's advice above.
