I'm selling my lovely VW 1.9 Tdi car soon. It's over five and a half years old, but has only done 44k miles, and touch wood been completely trouble free. My question is. Should I replace the cam belt before I sell it? The cam belt in the car is the original one, but I know that it will eventually have to be replaced. Would I sell the car easier if I had it done now, or should I knock a few hundred pounds off the value if someone mentions it when looking at the car? The last service record from the main VW dealer said, cam belt beginning to wear. Thank you.

What is the specified change intervals of your cambelt?

Main dealers say things like that to make money.

Can you see the wear? how did they see the wear? the cambelts are usually hidden..

Hmm, interesting. I looked at the service receipt and it said 'Cambelt showing surface cracks'.
depends on the cracks? accross ways is normal and as tourman said check the intervals if its not due and youve had it serviced accordingly then why worry, but check the cost of having it replaced anyway and then youll de clued up on answers for the potential buyer!
oops i mean cracks not normal !
