Motor Insurance (Attempt number 2)
OK, Back in January I was stopped by the police for 'allegedly' having no insurance after being picked up on ANPR camera in an unmarked car. I had only got the car that morning and HAD phoned NAT WEST to get cover, when police check MIB - no record... I am given a producer, call Nat West, they will look into it, 2 days later an apology, 1 day after that Insurance cert arrives, off I go to police stn but cops aren't interested because PC didn't tick the right box on the form so I have to opt for court appearance to prove innocence. 2 weeks ago summons arrives, I plead NOT GUILTY and send back, am told not to attend first hearing as it will be cancelled and a new date set. 2 days ago get letter from court and DVLA telling me I now have 8 points and a 270 fine!
Completely ignored my NOT GUILTY plea!
Now I have had to hire a solicitor at the cost of a grand just because some plod didn't tick the right box on the form, if he had then all of this could have been settled at the station.
Anybody else had an experience like this?
How is it plod can screw up the paperwork and I still get a fine and 8 points?
Oh, and to add insult to injury...my insurance is due for renewal in 10 days - with this on my record you can imagine how much my premium will go up, even when the points get taken off and my fine is refunded I will still have paid over the odds... British Justice!

Went to court on Friday to try and get this resolved but the clerk was in court and was supposed to ring me back - needless to say he didn't!
Hence the reason why I went for a solicitor, in fact he asked me if I had surrendered the insurance cert to the court, I said I hadn't as it was the only proof of my innocence that I have, his response was "Good, the courts are notorious for losing papers", opens your eyes a bit doesn't it?
Thanks for the response, appreciated.
Got to say, if I ever get pulled again and given a producer I will be checking the details carefully.
Been driving for 26 years, in all that time I have only ever had 1 parking ticket issued to me by the local council, and that was when I smashed up my old Carlton and the wreckage was sitting outside the house waiting inspection by the insurers - NCP office told me that if the car was crash damaged I didn't need a permit, didn't stop one of their guys giving me a ticket though, although that was cancelled on appeal.
Other than that I have a clean record - something I would like to keep!
