Who's responsible for private test drive insurance?

I'm thinking of selling my car privately and wondered what happens if, for instance, a prospective buyer crashed my car on a test drive. Do I have to take their insurance details before they drive the car or what? I wouldn't like to think they could just walk away from the wreck and leave me stuck with it!

Most comprehensive policies will cover you to drive another vehicle as long as there is some other cover on that vehicle, but the cover wil probably be third party only.

most fully comp policies nowadays DO NOT allow you to drive other cars,but some do,so please check they have the cover,otherwise you may be left with a heavy bill.

Safest way is to call your insurance company and add the test driver on as a temporary driver (noprmally min is 3 days). That way they will have full cover when driving your vehicle. (should be about �10)
