would a blown head gasket stop the car from cranking up???? how long would it take to repair? and why are they checking for leaks an want to take it for a road test before i drive it to cornwall...and would they put and new engine in? they reckon it cost over 1000
A blown head gtasket would'nt stop a car from turning over - could stop it from starting, or could start up but be running off a cylinder, leak water out, leak water into the cylinders leak oil out or in and generally be a pain tin the but.Time and cost to repair depends on the car.
head gaskets don,t come with big surprises . like a lot of things on a car they creep up on you gradually. i had a 'c' reg astra and it just performed in a lacklustre soso fashion and the heater would never really get hot just warm. i needed to top up the water on a regular basis untill i had a chat with a mechanic who said the head gasket had 'gone' in reality there was a crack in the the gasket that was,nt much bigger than a pencil line but enough to cause these problems. what a difference when tha gasket was replaced for a new one! and luckily nothing major was required such as the head taking off and skimming to make a flat surface for the new gasket to sit on. so the effect can vary with each situation and the worst is the cost of a new engine. good luck
the cars a toyota estima... n reg by cranking up i mean the engine starting, im about 200 miles away from cornwall... found out later that it could have been the head cylinders?????? they have payed for the work im still under warranty... i just didnt want ripping off, how would i know if they had put a new engine in?? whats the signs if there is any!
