Why is there no bridge or car ferry between Portsmouth and Gosport? Do they actually want everyone in Gosport to shop in Southampton instead (as they do)?

Simple if you think, It would have to be so big-high to allow aircraft carriers through into the dockyard the cost would be tremendous apart from demolishing most of Portsmouth to build it!

Whos the they?

They are all the naval staff who live across the water and mainly have to drive 15 miles to a decent supermarket as they don't want to carry all the bags on the ferry and walk another mile to Alverstoke. The point is they did have a bridge once which floated and was removed after the war, and a car ferry is the obvious solution but they refuse to have one. It must be the shortest gap outside the Amazon without a bridge and such a long drive as an alternative.
