I have an old mini cooper which I bought a few months back .I've done quite a lot on it but the trouble is with the engine.Lately after a total overhaul I took it for a spin and the car could hardly pick up speed. What could be the problem,I've checked and cross checked everything.
I was thinking of changing the engine but the only choice i have is the honda accord engine which is quite rare where I'm from..any other suggestions?

Have you tried topping up the dash pot with oil? The thing that looks like a sauce bottle in the middle of the air intake.

Also there may be a problem with a vacuum hose coming from the distributor. Hard to get to on an old mini but worth checking.
