Door Lock Stuck!

Our back door lock has jammed/become stuck. It locked fine yesterday morning, but when I tried to open it in the evening I couldn't turn the key from either outside or inside. It is a mortice type lock with just the one sliding bolt bit. I have tried squirting WD40 into the lock from both sides, on the key and wiggling, but nothing seems to work. The door is wooden if that makes any difference.

Any suggestions??

If it's a 5 lever mortice, one of the levers may have slipped. This happened to me earlier this year in my new house and I took it out but couldn't mend it and ended up putting a new one in 16 from Wickes (police and insurance recommended) Good luck.
This might sound daft but have you tried pushing the door whilst turning the key, or pulling it towards you? I can't open my back door by turning the key alone, it won't turn but if I lean on it at the same time, it opens!

I have tried pushing, pulling, lifting, jiggling - everything with the damed door. Nothing seems to help.

I would be really pleased to take it out and get a new one, but not sure how to do it. It is not a 5 lever lock, just a normal mortice lock with the lock inside. We can get to both sides of the door, so how do we go about getting it off and opening the lock. I take it we need to remove both handles first, but then not sure, didn't want to do it without any advice, just in case i totally cocked it up.

Thanks again, any advice is really appreciated!!!
