Following on from a reply on someones elses post, is it actually illegal for driving instructors to talk on mobiles during lessons? Mine never did, but a mate is currently learning and says her instructor does it alot, which caused alarm bells to go off in my head. Surely while they're on the phone they can't be alert enough to watch for dangers or mistakes? Especially if they're planning other lessons in their diaries...

Just wanted to find out, thanks guys!

I would be mortified if I thought a driving instructor was on a mobile giving a lesson, after all he cannot be in control if he is doing that plus he is putting someone elses life in jeopardy. Mind you so are all the retrobates who do it anyway but that's not the point. That is unforgivable!

Also, aside from being dangerous, its pretty rude too. Learning to drive is so expensive and I'd feel cheated if the instructor wasn't giving me their full attention, you're paying by the hour after all!
The instructor is technically in charge of the vehicle if the person driving has a provisional licence. Therefore all the usual rules apply regarding cellphones as well as blood/alcohol level etc.
My 1st driving instructor used to smoke in the car and call his wife and ask what was for tea!! Tell her to get a new instructor, there are some terrible ones out there.
