Uninsured drivers
Just saw a post lower down where someone referred to an accident where they were hit by an uninsured driver. Does it make anyone else's blood boil when you hear these stories, and that people have to claim on their own insurance even though the accident was not their fault, and then they usually lose any no claims bonus. I think any driver found to be uninsured should be fined 500 automatically, and all this money should go into a fund to help people who have been hit by uninsured drivers (i.e. so they don't lose out at all). What does everyone else think?

It's laughable that the only thing they seem to do to uninsured or unlicenced/banned drivers is ban them (other than the rare occasion when they give them a custodial).
Do they really think that banning a banned or uninsured driver makes any difference? They clearly have no qualms about doing it regardless.
They need to take a tip from the arabic nations, and cut some bloody hands and feet off.
I deal with insurance fraud claims for a large insurer - the amount of retards on our roads is both boggling and frightening.
And it's getting worse with all the immigrants coming over and doing what they want.
Of course, more speed cameras would solve this ; )
The fund for dealing with claims against uninsured drivers is funded by those of us who actually pay our insurance. I think it would just be a lot better is the government could do the following to subsidise the accidents these cretins cause:
1. Divert their benefits until the cost of the claim is paid
2. Increase the income tax they pay until the cost of the claim is paid
This way, we all win - failing that, confiscate all their property and sell it.
I particularly love it when some idiot has an accident when he/she's uninsured, then takes out a policy and puts a claim in changing the date of the accident - I know people think that us insurers are just trying to screw everyone over, but honest to god, one idiot I spoke to actually had the audacity to ask me if I slept well at night when I pointed out that his accident occurred TWO WEEKS before he took the policy out with us

Good ideas there gouldc, but what are the chances of this government ever doing anything about these idiots? And as for the fund set up by insurance companies, I'll be honest I didn't know this existed, but it's just annoyed me even more to know this is funded by people who pay their insurance!! When will proper punishments ever be handed out to criminals in this country I wonder....
The government won't do anything - it's difficult enough to get the police to do anything - they simply don't have (a) the resources, or (b) the training to deal with anything like this.
Al lthe government are interested in are quick fix schemes for whatever is the hot topic of the day.
Quite honestly, if I ever got hit by an uninsured driver, i'd track him down and smash his car to pieces - not a christian attitude, but they've got to learn.
And it really narks me to think that despite the fact that I have kicked out nearly 500,000 of bent claims this year so far, it's just a drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of things.
I do like to rant about this - nothing ever gets done, but as insurance fraud is getting more attention, all insurers now have dedicated fraud units, and we're working together to blacklist scumbags.
Not many people realise that if we can prove you;ve commited insurance fraud, the police MAY take the case on (if it's in Scotland, you can almost guarantee it - they're really hot on it - easy conviction), and we will load you onto certain databases that zero your credit rating, and you will always be listed as a fraudster

Well I'm glad to hear that companies are doing more about it, but also what annoys me (yes another one), is that when you have specialist fraud teams set up, these have to be paid for, again by the people who pay their premiums! If there was no theft or fraud in this country I wonder how much people would save on their premiums? I analyse bad debt for a company and it makes me angry to think of the hundreds of people employed to chase this debt and the cost of those staff - it all adds up to higher premiums for all customers. Hmmm everything just annoys me really!
Having the specialist temas doesn't really eat into the premiums as we fall under the existing claims department budgets - I am the only person dealing with total loss, theft and accidental damage claims, whereas the other 8 members of my team deal with personal injury claims. When you consider that I've kicked out 78 claims this year, with a further 10 to 15 in the pipeline, this amounts to 500,000 so far, with a potential extra 30000 of savings to be added - we don't get paid much (under 20k pa), so my savings alone have paid for the entire team - we're on line to save around 2 million this year.
I can fully understand where you're coming from, and it's a never ending task fighting these scumbags.
I see everything from people pretending their cars were nicked becuase they crashed when drunk to full on false accidents where the cars never hit each other, yet you have eight to 10 people with injuries.
When you consider each injury is normally worth 5K, teams such as mine are essential.
Since the company I work for is one of the few t opost a profit every year, it means we're helping the company turn aprofit, which in turn means we don't have to put our premiums up.
Like it's been previously mentioned, if the government and police sorted their acts out (although god bless Bedfordshire, City Of London, and all Scottish Forces for their continued efforts and prosecutions), then I could go back to my normal job of paying out genuine claims.
Without meaning to sound racist, the main problem we have is foreign claimants.
The drink drivers pretending their cars are stolen are predominantly white british nationals.
However, the claimants who are pre-planning the staged accidents are predominantly asian and sri-lankan, and now we're seeing a lot more eastern europeans getting in on the act.
For gods sake, stay away from the Alum Rock

its a good idea in theory to arrange a pot of money , sourced /financed by 500 fines , given to uninsured drivers , and then this money good be used to assist finacially wise insured drivers "who have to claim of thier own insurance " even if it they was not to blame, this can also effect, the legal drivers no claims bonus, as it is classified as "at fault" , even though they were not actually to blame --------- if a person has third party fire/theft insurance, and they are "hit in the rear" ,by someone who turns out to be "uninsured " , then the third party f & t , insurance would not even be obliged to assist the legal drivers, as the onus is on the (insured t p f & t) , to recover his own costs , (one big difference btwn fully comp and third party f & t insurance)..... lots of motorists also do not attempt to call the police immiediately at time of accident, this can make tracing the driver very difficult at later on when going through a claim procedure, ........ its not always possible to get the police out instantly either, when you do contact them the first question is they ask over the phone, is anyone injured if you say no, they do not prioritise this as a call out ......just exchange particulars , put it this way , more than a few white lies can be told, if the police are not present , when exchanging particulars....... i once gave particulars of accident to the police , they got lost, and i had to past all details again to the traffic division , more than a month after the accident....thats something else that can happen , reports of accident paperwork gets lost !!!! , also when uninsured drivers are convicted, they oftenly dont pay the fine up in full ,straight away, they opt for installments, remember fines are retained by the government, ........continued......

compensation is not freqently awarded via magistrates to victims of uninsured drivers, unless thier has been physical injury, this reply is now going round in circles it was added to a longer page by myself slave plater ,... norman the dog is right in what he says thier is a fund , in existence however you have to identify the driver 100 per cent , this is where calling the police comes in handy !!! , if thier is not identification, this fund , does not have to entertain claims ...unless thier is personal injury , which is different from losses incurred regarding vehicle damage. if you have a low value car worth say 400, and this vehcle is classed as beyond economical repair , they will say, a cheque can be raised from this fund......value of car 400 , less excess of 225, means the pay out as a write of on this low value motor...would be 175 ------- uninsured drivers should be finger printed and dna etc etc ........ civil liberties my foot
iagree. im a young driver, have never ever missed a payment, but always get stopped by the police... its getting tireing however my best friend had his car hit badly by a loser un-insured driver who actually drove off without a conscience. he had to write off his car and receieved hosptial treatment.
