Yes you do have to fill it in. It will tell you on it what law prescribes this. Representation of the People Act something or other at a guess

Local Authorities have better things to do than chase non-compliers indefinitely. As long as you don't assault the guy who comes round to remind you they are unlikely to bother.

I'm curious as to why you want to be a non-person though.

It's not that I want to hide, it's because I fill it in every year, it's a waste of my time, it's waste of the councils time and money sending out a letter every year. Being on the electoral role is predominantly so that I can 'have my vote' well it dosen't make a blind bit of difference. Whichever govt comes in (labour of conservative) the taxes go up they never come down. Councils are now being more 'efficient' by reducing the services yet the council tax never decreases, rises every year by more than inflation. I'm sick of being apart of it. Democracy it's a crock.

In this country I think we have to work from Jan to June just to pay tax.

Don't vote. if we could get it to 70% no voters, politicians will start to see what the electorate think of them.

If only one person voted, the party that person voted for would win.

With holding your vote is just ducking your responsibilities and opting out.

Far better to register your disapproval by wasting the voting slip. That will show you are bothered enough to turn out but have no confidence.

While it may be my right to vote, I also have a right not to vote.

The Party in power promises to deliver lots but introduces less
The Party who wants power promises reforms, & takes on popular tabloid issues till it gets power, & leaves you all angry
The Party that has no chance of gaining power promises the moon knowing quite well it does not have to deliver anything.

bear in mind that if you ever apply for credit (and this could be for anything from an electricity supply through to a mortgage), lenders will search for you on voters role.

If they can't find you (on Voters Role), the chances of them lending you money / provide you a service is greatly reduced.

What a very sad person you are - people have fought and died to give you the right to vote, and you dismiss it! Being in this Country without the right of speech or vote you would obviously be one of the first to whine..... If you don't want a vote and the right to have your say in how things are governed please leave this Country and go to one where you don't have the right - either to vote or to have a life ..... get a life - vote and instead of costing additional money by not filling in the form ---- as each Council must send a Statutory number of notices to you to ensure you do have the right of franchise - fill in the bloody first one!!!

Who died in order to gain the vote? If there was any fighting it was caused by those middle & upper classed suffragettes with their terrorist activities.
They never got the vote till 1918 having proved themselves in the work place. Then again the working class women did not want the vote they were in favour of social reform
Men of all classes were given the vote in the 1870 reform act

Pragmatist. Love your passion and belief in the voting system in the UK. Not sure if people died for the right to vote, I thought they fought for the right of free speech and to stop a dictator. If I'm not mistaken he won his chancellorship by election in a democratic country!

I believe politicians make a verbal contract with the electorate when they ask for us to vote for them, only to break it when they win their seat.

If democracy is so undeniably great why don't the electorate get to vote on all issues. Why do we not have proportional representation and With technology changing so quickly why don't we vote on parliamentary issues instead of the politicians. A referendum on europe would be a good start. That woul be true democracy. Long live the rise of the career politician and their support by pragmatists like yourself.
