my front passenger brake is jamming on solid,i have replaced the pads, disk and flexi pipe,it will drive fine for a couple of miles and then jams on again and i have to drive it home at five miles an hour with the wheel barely turning.Since my last attempt the handbrake light has also stayed on.Any advice would be great as im pulling my hair out.
One possibility is that the Brake caliper piston is 'jamming'
inside the Caliper housing. You could try to push the piston back into the Caliper as far as it will go and try to clean the bore out as much as you can. If the 'bore' is badly scratched then you may need to replace the Caliper complete. Excessive wear in the bore can also allow the piston too much lateral movement and causes it to jam.
Also check the brake pads are free to move in the brackets, sometimes a little wire brush works wonders.
pads are dragging as the caliper requires a strip and clean (pistons not retracting owing to dirt/corrosion) as the disk heats up from the dragging, it expands and drags even more... eventually you will also warp your disks. Get the calipers sorted out - not a difficult job.
If you're going DIY and need help, post up and we'll talk you through it. However - only touch the brakes if you have a fair mechanical aptitude !!
