Hi, i have just bought a car on ebay (on a whim - 2 minutes remaining !)
As the car is not road legal, i will need to get it transported from ramsgate far south east
to merseyside north west - approx 300 miles.
does anybody have experience of the charges, and or any recommended companies to use ?.
Cheers

Try a quote from some of them, their feedback should give you an idea of the quality of service they offer
why not do it yourself, hire a trailer 70 approx for weekend.and pick it up yourself.
If you pre-book an MOT in Merseyside for the car ( assuming it needs one and then licensing ) then just arrange your insurance cover and go pick it up yourself. You are legally allowed to drive a car to a pre-arranged MOT. Just make a note of the person's name and make sure they enter it in their bookings in case of inspection later.

I have bought on ebay before and done this more than once with no problems.

Thank you for your answers, ive been toying with these ideas and

Zen, the idea of using ebay as there is feedback to go by is a good one (hadnt thought of that !) - since recomendation is what i was looking for if i use a company.

Norman the dog, id like to do it by trailer as it will be cheaper (45 p/wknd) - just need to get in touch with the aa to find out what the score is if the car im towing with breaks down !.

Dessie, im also strongly considering your idea - is no tax also allowed since i cant get it till mot'd ?
wont they think im taking the P ? - 300 miles to an mot.
have you actually been pulled over whilst using this method ?.
Well I've done over 200 miles on 2 occasions and I wasn't pulled over. Let's face it if the car is in a decent condition with brake lights working and you're obeying speed limits etc then why should they have cause to suspect you and radio your number plate through for a check?

Anyway if the worst happened you'd just quote the garage where you have pre-booked your MOT so they can check. It doesn't say the MOT has to take place within x miles does it? Use the Law to your advantage for a change.
....and yes..... no Tax and no MOT is allowed PROVIDED it is pre-booked before you start driving it.
not contradicting your answer dassie as i think its really good and will be using it for my self soon enough, but the motorway police (volvo's, vectras, unmarked cars etc) dont even need to look at your car now they're cameras read your number plate and run it through their system to check everything and it alerts them to any problems, my mate got pulled just as a check because he had reported his numberplates stolen, and he was going the opposite direction ! !

ok, dassie - thats great and ill bear it in mind in future (i collect lots of cars to fix up and sell) but for this one i think ill just get a company to do it - ive tried one so far from the link zen provided and the first quote is 280, ill have a little shop around but when weighed up against the total costs of doing it myself and the time taken, its quite cheap and its all done and dusted and ill just chuck in an extra shift at work to contribute.
Thanks again all
