Don't know the actor, I'm afraid. But the singing is by Ross Macmanus, who is Elvis Costello's father. This trivia fact always pops up on Top 100 Adverts programs.

My friend Lucy's uncle plyed him.. certainly in the early versions. I've not checked this with her, but, as far as I can remember, he was a brilliant French mime/actor with the surname Chagrin. He got so much recognition and response to the ads that he decided to move to Israel to avoid the attention.

Thanks to the people who replied to my question.

I have since found the answer so to those of you who may be interested, the actor is called Julian Chagrin and he became a bit of a big noise in Israeli film and TV.
