Stone chips + weeds

I have weeds growing through stone chips in garden even though there is a lining underneath. Any ideas on how to stop them growing through?

I have the exact same problem, in fact since there are Sycamores on the old embankment next to us we even get the seedlings growing just in the gravel! The only solutions are to either pull them up as soon as you see them or to spray the gravel onec a year with something like Pathclear.

I bought from a mail order thingie a flame gun that is powered by a little gas canister and "cooks" weeds. Its slower than using weedkiller but handy if you don't like or can't use chemicals. I guesss you'd have to make sure that the gravel was deep enough to protect the liner tho'
