my "Abandoned" car!

I asked permission of a local landlady to leave my SORN car on her pub car park while it was mended. She agreed, but when I went back six days later, the car had gone. She said she had had it towed away and crushed, as she thought it was abandoned. Is there any way/ a best way to get some kind of recompence for this? Although the car wasn't MOT'd or taxed at the time, the cost of replacement is approx �800, so I'm very annoyed. Thanks for any suggestions.

seems to me you have been a bit stupid,and i doubt whether you have a leg to stand on legally.

Why stupid? I did everything by the book, making it SORN and asking permission first. My understanding at the moment is that before she moved the car, she had to take "all reasonable steps" to trace the owner, i.e contacting the counci, DVLA etc?

I don't know the answer. But I just wanted to say getting it crushed after only being there 6 days seems a bit rushed. And ,no, you weren't being stupid.

take her to court!! you had a verbal contract with this woman who went back on her word without giving you notice that she was going to do it. make a claim in the small claims court, it only costs �30 online or something like that. Do it!

Can they really do this? surely they could contact you to check before destroying your car.It seems like legal vandalism.

Yes, she can do it. She has done!:-) Whether it is legal, or whther I have a right to some compensation is what I want to know. Ideally, I wanted the car back, but doesn't look like that will happen.

I don't think there was a contract even a verbal one because there was no consideration. In a contract each party has to give consideration - the landlord gave you permission but you gave nothing in return.
