dose 99 give better mileage, i got 95 and did 260 miles on just under 3/4 a tank, then topped up with what i think must have been 99 judging by the price (104.9 - was the only one there) and did the same 260 mile trip on 1/2 a tank so even though its a bit more it could be a real saving or is it just that tesco petrol is crap ?

Hi, i dont think the level of octane will effect the mileage, it is to improve performance. 99 octane is basically for cars that have been designed for it (scoobys, evo's and so on). I think it's more likely that tesco fuel is crap
104.9 was probably ordinary - the price has gone up.
Hi Thunderchild,

I did the same thing and seemed to get an extra 45 mile from a tankfull on my commute to work and back. I'm going to try and test it again just to be sure.
For best results use the one specified in the cars handbook.

I don't know which car you drive.

Fiesta Quarz 1996 they say 95 octane and that 99 won't help if price has risen (ah yet again) then it was 95 octane I did get (texaco station) and I might try out other stations then and not tesco as in their very own words: every little helps and I don't mind paying 2p more for petrol that will take me further and even give up the wonderous clubcard point......
