Aye, probably going for new. Although if I can find one less than a year old with all the extra little bits and that's actually significantly less expensive than a new one then I'm open to a used car. So far the signs aren't so good.
Neighbour envy isn't important, I just wanted a more up market small car and the A3 seemed to fit the bill. I test drove one a couple of years ago and loved it.
When I got my 206 I noticed that the world and his dog also drove 206s. I remember once driving home from work and seeing 5 in a row on the other carriageway. Golfs seem to be a bit like that. Damn I sound like such a snob.
I would say residuals are important, however I've had my 206 since October 2000 and if I keep my next car as long I imagine residual value would be kinda sucky no matter I get. Hopefully it'll be as reliable as my 206 so I'll have no reason to replace it any sooner.
And yes you're right, I have already decided. Although spending all that dough on something that, when all is said and done, I don't really need is what I'm having trouble with. Hell, I could cycle to work and walk to the shops and ditch the car all together. But where's the fun in that?
