ford focus 1.8 diesel ( X plate)

When i rev the engine it chucks out cloud of black smoke the ground is coverd with black saut ,i would like to hear from any body who has had this sort of problem if so how was it sorted

im presuming its a 1.8 turbo diesel and the 1.8 is the older ford diesel engine you used to get in the older fiestas escorts mondeos etc etc. make sure there are no splits in the hoses and pipes connected to the turbo and maybe change the fuel filter also.

its ford focus ESTATE1.8 LX TD DI i do not know if its old 1.8 diesel thanks for the information i will check all the air hose, fuel filter will try how ever it does not lack power.

change the oil and filter and give it a good blast down the road in 3rd gear that will clear it out we do that when they fail there mots

I would like to say thanks to every one for all the information it has been very helpfull and i have know sorted the problem.
I would like to share this with evey body so that it can help others the problem was the air fillter was blocked,changedthe air fillter and gave it a good blast on the motorway the smoke & soot has cleared by 90%
I wil get the oil & fillter soon as possiable thanks for that col72
