My Fiesta Zetec started playing up it would not go into gear. It just happened suddenly on a Friday and i needed it foe work by Monday. The garage said it was the clutch i thought fair one but charged me 350.00 to fix it now it works perfectle. My question is is that the going rate when i got the clutch done on my Rover it was only 70.00.
The clutch is a pig of a job to do though. If its being replaced you usually have to remove the gear box too. Sounds like an expensive but fair price. The part alone could have been 250.
a clutch for a fiesta zetec can cost anything from 80 to 150 pounds depending on quality, at my sons ford garage they allow 4 hrs to do job at 80 pounds a hour,so i think you have got a good deal, dont forget, vat, gearbox oil, seal, costs as well.
You have to remove the gearbox to get to the clutch in the Fiesta, and quite alot of other cars. With most Rovers you can gain access to the clutch via a hatch so i would guess that was why it was so much cheaper.
cant say ive ever changed a clutch on a rover that did not involve removing the gearbox, the only cars that had the plate was the older vauxhall cavaliers astras etc
