Might just be a spark plug, cost, new plug 4, fitting 5, if your cars worth less than 9 you better scrap it.

Silly question, need more details.
It could also be a lead that's faulty, when was it last serviced or had time spent on it???

had a new cambelt and tensioner fitted a couple of months ago, a decent car and looked after with only 48,000 miles on the clock but someone suggested it might be a big job or a new engine, so was just interested in other opinions
try the spark plug lead
the distributer cap
and of course sometimes one of the spark plugs can be a bit duff so make sure they are all okay
pull all the spark plug leads off and just rest them on the plugs.make sure you keep them on the correct plug!!!!
then with the engine running, take one lead off at a time, use something that is insulated so you don't get a 'lecky shock!
if the plug and lead are ok the engine will die or splutter. if the plug or lead aren't working there will be no difference in the engine tone/revs.
when you know whick plug/lead it is swop the plug with one of the others (ie. plug 2 suspect. swop with plug 1 ) then retry. if the fault moves with the plug .. it's the plug. if it stays in the same place it's the lead, distributor cap, (clean inside and out & recheck ) or it's not a sparking issue and may get very expensive depending on what it is.
let us know on plug test first. don't forget new plugs can fail very quickly so don't say it's not them 'till you've checked.
good luck.

common fault on these bangers is the coil packs. coincidentally if it does turn out to be a plug just be careful as i have found a few of these wrecks in my time to have seized spark plugs due to corrosion and had them breaking sometimes!!! not a pleasant job to rectify!!!
